The Collins class submarine HMAS Rankin has been awarded the Royal Australian Navy’s prestigious Gloucester Cup for the third time.

One of the Australian Navy’s newest aviation teams took out the honours for the coveted Collins Trophy recently with the 2016 ‘most proficient’ embarked helicopter flight going to some of those flying and maintaining the Seahawk Romeo.

In 1973, the Sydney Opera House opened, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon was released, Gough Whitlam was Prime Minister, and the Watergate hearings began in the United States.  It was also the year that Ian Rigby, walked into HMAS Leeuwin as a 15-year-old to start his naval career.

The 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours List named three leaders from the Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Darwin recognised for their service in the ship’s recent deployment to the Middle East.

The Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), has approved 891 awards to be announced in the Queen’s Birthday 2017 Honours List.
