For the tenth year, Team Navy continues its association with surf lifesaving as the naming rights sponsor of the 2017-18 Australian Surf Rowers League (ASRL) series.

A key part of the alliance this competitive season was the chance for participating ASRL clubs to win a brand new fully equipped $28,000 surf boat and trailer.

Navy Captain Charles Stephenson presented the prize to the winners, Coolum Surf Club from Queensland, on Elouera Beach, New South Wales during one of the ASRL series events.

"The Australian Surf Rowers League and Navy share mutual values of effective team work, and like the Navy protects the Australian coastline, the Australian Surf Rowers League protects the shores of every state and territory around the country," said Captain Stephenson.

"I am delighted to present Coolum Surf Club with a Surfboat and Trailer to further support lifesaving in their region.

"By nurturing the sport, Navy provides the Australian Surf Rowers League with the necessary resources to assist them in recruiting essential volunteer lifesavers, both male and female. The more lifesavers on the beaches and in the water, the safer our beaches are."

The 2017-18 Team Navy Australian Surf Rowers League Series consists of 24 events around Australia from October 2017 to February 2018 and are held on some of the country's premier beaches.

The League was born in New South Wales in 1992 as the International League of Australian Surfboat Rowers Inc. and currently has around 3,000 members making up 450 crews from more than 260 clubs.
