ABMT SM Joe Piasecki completes a round of the inflatable circuit during the Royal New Zealand Navy's 75th anniversary sports day.

A sports day involving competitors from 22 nations proved a highlight of last year’s Royal New Zealand Navy 75th birthday celebrations, according to crew members of Australian submarine HMAS Dechaineux.

Smiling, familiar faces greeted the crew of HMAS Dechaineux upon her return to Fleet Base West after a two month deployment to Tasmania and New Zealand. Arriving a week ahead of Christmas the submarine crew were welcomed by friends, family and representatives of the Submarine Force.

The daughter of Captain Emile Dechaineux visited the Collins class submarine named after her father in Hobart on the 72nd anniversary of his death.

Following a lumpy transit across the Southern Ocean, HMAS Dechaineux took a well-earned break in Hobart for a few days recently.

Family and friends gather on Diamantina Wharf to welcome home to Fleet Base West HMAS Dechaineux after a South East Asia deployment.

HMAS Dechaineux returned to her home port at Fleet Base West just before Christmas, following a six month deployment to Asia and the east coast of Australia.
