A member of the search and rescue team that worked to save personnel in the wake of the collision between HMA Ships Melbourne and Voyager on 10 February 1964 has been recognised for his heroism posthumously.

Like a crew of ‘buccaneers’, the blindfolded Perth Wildcats basketball team ‘walked the plank’ then navigated through hoops of a different kind during teamwork and leadership skills training - Navy’s way.
The sport of soccer is currently undergoing a resurgence at Fleet Base West, in Rockingham, after a busy 18 month period that has seen the team based at HMAS Stirling creating a strong impression in the local competition as well as against visiting ship’s teams.

HMAS Stirling recently hosted an international contingent of submarine rescue officers who were ‘taught and assessed’ on the planning and coordination considerations in the event of a stricken submarine incident requiring rescue.
