Brendan and Chris Frier were back in winning form in their Team Navy Offshore Superboat in the final round of the Australian Championships held on 30 November in Hervey Bay, Queensland.
The race was conducted in picture perfect conditions with all boats racing along the shoreline between Point Vernon and Urangan.
Crowds flocked to the shoreline while the boats positioned themselves for the final two races.
“We went into the Hervey Bay races leading the championship by only 123 points and hoping to cross the finish line without any mechanical issues,” said driver Chris Frier.
The races proved challenging amongst the teams in the first race with Brendan and Chris bringing the boat home in second place.
“Our team have gone above and beyond to ensure we were competitive on the weekend, everyone’s hard work paid off and we couldn’t be more thankful,” Chris said.
In race 2 all teams headed back to the marina to change gearing in the hopes of gaining a few extra km/hr out of their boats.
Team Navy's boat, Friers Offshore Racing was mostly happy with the set up but did make a late change to suit the conditions.
The start of the race saw Maritimo get the jump having secured pole position the day before.
Maritimo Newcastle were hot on their heels as were Team Navy.
Team Navy managed to pull ahead of Maritimo and start reeling in Maritimo Newcastle, but the distance proved to be too great and a mechanical failure late in the race while chasing down Maritimo Newcastle ended the race for the team.
Even, with a second place in race 1 and not finishing race 2, Friers Offshore came away with first place in the Australian Extreme Supercat Championship.
The first round of the 2015 series heads to Newcastle 24-26 April 2015. SBS Speedweek will air all the action of the Hervey Bay round in the coming weeks - check your local guide for times.
