On 5 December, HMAS Harman welcomed over 1,400 Canberra defence members and their families for the annual Christmas party. Almost doubling last years numbers, 2014 set a new record and there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Entertainment for the kids on the evening included a petting zoo, appearances from Peppa Pig and Elsa from Frozen, jumping castles and giant slides. Parents indulged in hotdogs, cakes and chatted over coffee while watching the kids expend all of their energy.

The Navy Band provided musical entertainment with carols by candlelight, a patchwork of blankets covered the ground in front of the stage where families from across the Canberra community sat and sung along to their favourite holiday tunes.

Executive Officer HMAS Harman, Lieutenant Commander Kristen Watts, spoke of the efforts and benefits involved in putting together the event.

“There is always an enormous amount of work involved in putting together an event like the Christmas party, and with record numbers, this year was no exception. This could not occur with out the support from the greater defence community, and other government and local organisations. It is fantastic for Harman to be able to provide such a fun and enjoyable evening to Canberra defence members and their families,” Lieutenant Commander Watts said.

Coming together with family and friends makes the holiday period even more special, events such as the HMAS Harman Christmas party bring members of the community together in a celebration of the year that has been and the magic of the Christmas.
