At the end of November, Seaman Boatswains Mate Melissa Sirett celebrated her 18th Birthday while embarked in HMAS Success for her first sea posting. Her 18th Birthday was a unique experience because it fell during the ship’s Unit Readiness Workup.

Her day included protecting the ship as a member of the weapons crew, fighting fires, stopping floods and was finished off by blowing out the candles on her birthday cake.

“I feel like the Ship’s Company’s little sister and that Captain Norris (Commanding Officer, Captain Allison Norris) and the Ship’s Warrant Officer are my Sea Mum’s,” SMN Sirett said.

Success has been hard at work undertaking Unit Readiness Workups in the East Australian Exercise Area and achieved Unit Readiness on Thursday, 28 November.

“It was an excellent experience to be able to celebrate such a big milestone in my life, coupled with such a big milestone for the ship – it’s certainly a birthday I’m going to remember,” SMN Sirett said.

Success will spend the remainder of 2013 conducting First of Class Flight Trials, before starting her busy 2014 operational program.
