There is always pride at stake when local teams accept the challenge to compete in one of HMAS Stirling’s monthly sports competitions.

The Mike Barnett Sports Complex in Rockingham, Western Australia, was the venue for the recent round of competitions, where teams from HMA Ships Arunta and Toowoomba went head to head in the final of July’s Netball Competition.

The game progressed with nail-bitting suspense and the scores remained close, as the Toowoomba team demonstrated fearlessness and determination to edge out their opponent and clinch a 5-6 win.

Toowoomba’s Physical Training Instructor, Leading Seaman Stuart Stratton was pleased with the result and the efforts of his side.

“Even though we had a few state netballers on our side, it was still a tough game to win.

“The team worked well together and I think that’s what got us across the line at the end,” he said.

The win added to Toowoomba’s tally of sporting achievements, which includes winning Stirling’s basketball competition in June.

The sporting competitions are organised and run by the Stirling Physical Training Instructors.

Designed to get people physically active, provide a break from their workspaces, and promote team building, the monthly events always get a good turnout of enthusiastic players who bring competitiveness to all the sports played.
