After winning some significant trophies in the local sailing club competition at the end of the 2015-16 season, the Creswell Albatross Sailing Club is gearing up for the 2016-17 season.

Club members regularly race with the Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club in Division 1 on the two Navy yachts based at HMAS Creswell.

Commanding Officer HMAS Creswell, Captain Steve Hussey, and some of the team accepted the trophies on behalf of the club.

Navy took out the Club Championship, the Cock of the Bay, Round the Bay, Spring Series and Summer Series in Division 1 with both Navy yachts winning a trophy.

As well as building on the fine nautical traditions of the Navy, the club provides opportunity for Defence personnel from all quarters to connect outside the work environment.

The club has a diverse group of members from both Creswell and HMAS Albatross (plus other regions), covering the entire spectrum of Defence employees including permanent and reserve Navy members and public servants.

From first-time novices to Sydney-to-Hobart veterans, the club is a melting pot of sailing personalities that enjoys the company of each other and involvement in the sport.

People interested in sailing also have the opportunity to represent the Navy at local, national and international events, keeping fighting fit and building resilience.

Some key club milestones have been the entry with the tall ships during the 2013 International Fleet Review into Sydney Harbour, and the 2016 Tri-Nations Sailing Challenge in New Zealand between the Royal Navy, Royal Australian Navy and Royal New Zealand Navy.

Although Navy representatives did not win the tri-nations trophy, they won the division race during the Auckland anniversary weekend sailing events into Auckland Harbour earlier this year.
