Elizabeth Street, North Hobart, is one of Tasmania's favourite restaurant and dining strips. On Sunday, 25 August, that strip became Tassie’s ‘New Orleans’ as jazz bands took over many of the neighbourhood cafés, restaurants, pubs and even the local Uniting Church.

Hot August Jazz 2013 attracted jazz enthusiasts and music lovers from all over the state for an exciting day of traditional and contemporary jazz.

A highlight, especially for the diners at a favourite music venue, the Republic Bar, was the performance by a six-piece jazz ensemble from the Tasmanian Detachment of the Royal Australian Navy Band.

Festival organiser, Christine Bailey, said the Navy Band’s appearance was enthusiastically supported with excellent feedback from an appreciative audience.

Overall, Hot August Jazz, and the Navy Band set, was described as ‘an outstanding success’.
