A photographic exhibition titled ‘Thank you for your service’ has been launched at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney.

The exhibition is a joint initiative between the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Australian Defence Force, the New South Wales Government, the Sydney Morning Herald, and the Age.

For Petty Officer Communication Information Systems Jessica Buley, being selected as one of ten Royal Australian Navy representatives to appear in the exhibition has been a poignant experience.

“My family has a long military history and I’m proud to have the opportunity to represent both my family and the Navy here today.

“My grandfather was in the Army, and I’ve got a sister and an uncle in the Navy as well,” she said.

Petty Officer Buley has served in the Navy for 13 years and is the Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Manager on board HMAS Hobart.

Prior to her posting to the Guided Missile Destroyer, she’d spent the majority of her career in Cairns onboard hydrographic survey ships and patrol boats.

“But my highlight would be commissioning Hobart - coming back to Major Fleet Units and introducing Navy’s newest capability,” Petty Officer Buley said.

Overall, forty-six serving and former Australian Defence Force personnel are featured in photographs in the exhibition.

The Navy personnel featured reflect a diverse selection of sailors and officers from across the fleet.
