Personnel from HMA Ships Anzac and Success join members of the Philippine Navy for a goodwill sports day as part of their South East Asia Deployment.

More than 50 people from HMA Ships Success and Anzac have joined members of the Philippine Navy Education and Training Command for a Goodwill Sports Day.

The Philippines teams proved to be strong sportspeople, winning the volleyball and basketball matches while the RAN team left with a win in the soccer.

HMAS Success Physical Training Instructor, Petty Officer Shane Murphy said it was a great opportunity to interact between Navies.

“The camaraderie shown by both countries on and off the field was pleasing.

“A fantastic time was had by all,” Petty Officer Murphy said.

On completion of the Goodwill Sports Day matches RAN players and spectators were invited to participate in a Boodle Fight - an Armed Forces of Philippines tradition of communal eating.

HMA Ships AnzacToowoomba and Success have embarked on the South East Asia deployment for approximately three months.

The Royal Australian Navy task group will visit a number of ports to build partner capacity and develop interoperability in the South East Asian region.
