Cadets from Training Ship Flinders, based at Port Lincoln, South Australia, in front of HMAS Leeuwin during the ship's port visit for Anzac Day.

More than 2,000 people stood alongside the crew of hydrographic ship HMAS Leeuwin in Port Lincoln for Anzac Day commemorations, and with that level of enthusiasm, no wonder the ship’s company departed with some in tow.

Early in January HMAS Leeuwin set sail from Cairns to begin a transit to conduct military data gathering operations in the Bass Strait. A number of Australian Navy Cadets and family members for ship's company joined the ship for the first day of the deployment.

HMAS Leeuwin hosted the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Australia Day citizenship ceremony in Port Adelaide, welcoming new Aussies with Minister for Defence Industry the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, and Lieutenant Commander Adam Muckalt.

Royal Australian Navy people spent time on Australia Day getting out into the community. From flag raising ceremonies to an Open Day, the Navy helped celebrate Australia and show how proud all Navy members are to protect Australia’s lifestyle and freedoms.
