HMAS Newcastle and her ship’s company of 230 have departed Garden Island, Sydney en route for her sixth deployment to the Middle East region.

ScanEagle, an unmmanned aerial vehicle launches from the flight deck of HMAS Newcastle during operational evaluation trials.

While she may be the last Australian guided missile frigate to deploy to Operation MANITOU, HMAS Newcastle is the first to deploy on operations with an MH60R helicopter and a ScanEagle Unmanned Aerial System.

HMAS Arunta has completed a third significant narcotics interdiction after seizing 260 kilograms of heroin in the north Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa as part of Operation MANITOU.
